SAT 20 MARCH 2010
It had been many years since I was in this lovely corner of the country for the brutal Chapelgill race. But it was a welcome return, with the weather being grand and lots of familiar friendly faces. Westies managed a good turnout for this first SHR Championship counter. It's really quite a simple wee race - bash straight up steeply for a mile and then turn around and madly cartwheel down the heather, quads protesting all the way. I got the race out of the way in just under half an hour, heavy legs making for a very slow start before hitting the summit cairn in 21 mins, and a mad dash back down in just over 7 mins. Manny led the Westies home many minutes ahead of me. A great afternoon's running and socialising. I even enjoyed a nice pre-race cycle down to the Talla and Megget reservoirs, before snapping my chain a mere mile before Chapelgill, where Elsie and Laurie came to my rescue.
Had a more successful cycle on Sun on my other bike - a cracking 80 miles from Doune out round Loch Katrine, down to Aberfoyle past a pack of amazing wild goats, up the Duke's Pass, back to Callander with a nice cofee and cake stop at the lochside cafe, in and out of Doune and over to Dunblane and back. The weather picked up as the afternoon went on, and so did my spirits and energy levels. A great day out in bonnie Scotland.
