Westies Calderglen Handicap Race
WED 15 SEP 2010
Don Reid's report =
The first Calderglen handicap race went really well with 22 runners turning out. JD had done a great job marking the course and with my family marshalling the road crossings, there was no major navigational gaffs (unlike the Comrie relays!).
I knew that we only had about an hour of good light to play with so Drew was under pressure to set the handicaps and get everybody off and running. I think he got it about right (apart from mine of course!). Ken McMahon came in first with a time of around 32.45 (the fastest of the night i believe), just ahead of my EK training buddy, Gerry Reid (33.00) who was having a guest run.
First lady in was Pauline i think and i'm sure Drew will add the times soon.
Well done to everybody who took part. The response to the course seemed to be pretty positive, so i will put the event on again next year but perhaps earlier in the summer to provide more daylight.
Finally, thanks to all the marshalls including Eileen Reid and Davie Mac, JD for marking the trail, Drew for timing and John Quinn for buying me a beer in the pub afterwards.
