95 MILES 4800 FEET ASCENT 9H 50M
With my two favourite Fifers, Louise and Moira, I had a great cycle round 95 miles. Starting and finishing in Forfar we headed out to Newtyle, Murthly, stopped in Dunkeld for soup and tea, out to Dalguise and up to Pitlochry, over to Kirkmichael for tea and Empire biscuits, over to Blacklunans and Glenisla, Peel Farm tea shop near Loch of Lintrathen for a tasty panini, before hitting Kirriemuir and back to Forfar. The weather improved all day and the scenery was Scotland at its finest. All in all a grand day out.

Galashiels 200KM Audax
18 APRIL 2010
125 MILES 7000 FEET ASCENT 10hr 33m
Chris and I endured a lovely, if demanding 200K Audac cycle from Galashiels down to Moffat and back. Low-points were the hailstones near the Devil's Beeftub; high-points the numerous tea shop stops.
Chris' report =
JD and I had a bit of an epic cycle ride yesterday from Galashiels. 200km or 124 miles of hilly roads via Traquhair, St Mary's Loch, Megget/Talla Reservoirs, Tweedmuir, Devil's Beeftub, Moffat, St Mary's Loch again, Hawick, Newton St Boswell, Melrose and finally back to Galashiels after 10.5 hours, and 8.5 hours of cycling. Pretty vile unpleasant weather for much of the middle part, getting pelted with rain and hail, but thankfully improved for the final section.

Lakeland Loop Cycle Sportif
SUNDAY 11 APRIL 2010
70 MILES 2000 METRES
Enjoyed a cracking cycle "race" down in the Lakes with 500 others. This very hilly route takes in the passes of Whinlatter, Hardknott (1 in 4 gradient!) and Wrynose starting from Langdale. We had fine weather and I just missed out on the 5 hour mark, finishing 149th of 454 finished. The race was won in 3h 43m.

Easter Corbett Bagging in Knoydart
Easter weekend saw myself and 9 other Glenmore Club members head over to the remote peninsula of Knoydart. Friday's weather was glorious for the drive up and boat ride in to Inverie from Mallaig. On Saturday I trotted over the two Corbetts of Sgurr Coire Choinnichean and Beinn na Caillich. It was a hard slog straight up almost 800 metres in about a mile from the Knoydart Foundation Bunkhouse, with snow greeting me on top. I then headed cross country to the next one, nestling beside the mighty Munro of Ladhar Bheinn. It was more of a steady plod here, with a steep dodgy descent off it before sore knees reduced me to a walk back a few miles on land rover tracks to Inverie. A few beers and a roaring fire in the bunkhouse soothed the pain though.
On Sunday the promised fine weather made an appearance and I put the boots on anticipating lots of fresh snow on the ridge to Beinn Bhuidhe. I took the clockwise option, heading up into Gleann Meadail , not quite going all the way to Mam Meadail and bashing across to miss out Meall Bhasiter. The ridge was covered in a few feet of fresh snow, the sun was shining and the views were amazing - Loch Nevis, the Munros around Sgurr na Ciche, the Skye Cuillins and Knoydarts own array of Corbetts and Munros.

April Cycle
THURSDAY 1 APRIL 2010
With a cheeky wee day off I managed a cracking 50 mile cycle from East Kilbride. I headed out to Auldhouse, Thorntonhall, Eaglesham, Whitelees Windfarm, Eaglesham Moor and down Newton Mearns to visit my pal Alan in Clarkston for some tea and Tunnocks Caramel Wafer. Headed back home via Eaglesham and Auldhouse. In between the su nshine and blue skies I had stinging hailstones, a knackered front derailleur cable and a puncture just to round things off. Still was a grand day out.
