On a lovely bright,if breezy, evening there was a great turnout of Westies for the first hill run of the year that didn't require headtorches. We had a couple of newcomers and even ex-Captain Charlie was out, somehow getting to the top before us all. Rumours of a helicopter assisted climb and gravity aided descent still persist. We all felt so energised by the good evening that we added The Slacks on to the run as well to make it approx. an hour.

NEW LANARK WESTIES RUN
New Lanark and Falls of Clyde - 25th March 2006
A scenic run from Crossford Bridge with Chris, Catriona and David. My longest run in 4 months, so a success despite Cat burning me off at the end.

DEFI de l' OISANS RACE 2005
31st July to 5th August 2005
200km and 12,000m ascent by 8 stages over 6 days
The Defi de l'Oisans is a stage race around the GR54 in France, starting and finishing in Les Deux Alpes. Stages 1 and 5 are non-timed walks, although the descent on Stage 5 degenerated into a bit of a race for Le Scottish Team with Trevor almost wiping out a group of hikers. The race therefore consists of 6 timed stages, ranging from a 4km time trial to a 54km endurance stage. The steepest climbs and descents and most dramatic trail running are reserved for the final three stages.

CRIFFEL HILL RACE 2006
Steffen and a few other helpers organised this year's Criffel Race in the absence of Peter & Elspeth. Hopefully a racer's report will follow, but from a summit marshal's (very cold)point of view I can report that it was a cracker of a day. 35 runners, Brian Marshall and Jill Tait winners, tons of crusty snow on top, bleeding shins all round and tea and scones in the pub after. Thanks also to the Moffat Mountain Rescue who almost outnumbered the competitors.

NEW ZEALAND 2004
Some photos of my 3 week tour of NZ for the 2nd time back in February 2004. Starting off in Tongariro National Park with a 2 day trek round the fantastic volcanic scenery there; then to Wellington for a few days to visit some friends; across on the ferry to Nelson on the South Island where we ran on the Abel Tasman trail and went sea kayaking; down the west coast visiting a glacier; to the adventure capital of Queenstown where we went up Ben Lomond!; 2 days on the spectacular Routeburn Track and then to Te Anau; a few days on the Kepler Track; back to Queenstown for the flight home. A fantastic country and a fantastic holiday.
